Who am I?

I’m a First Nations Aussie writer and illustrator (warami, g’day, hi, hello!) currently focusing on picture books. I recently signed with agent Annabel Barker and we’re working on sending out a couple of my manuscripts in the coming months.

My goal is to share my wins and failures as I try to figure out how to juggle it all with 2 young children AND work towards being a better human at the same time (see how that says ‘better’ not ‘the best’ :D). And to drink copious amounts of tea through it all — let’s not forget that.

I’ve also been working as a freelance editor for almost 9 years where I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with novelists and freelance writers alike to improve their craft.

Where I started

Much has changed since I first started writing on Substack. In the beginning I was writing a lot on Medium and pursuing freelance writing work. I’ve since stopped Medium altogether (I no longer found it enjoyable reading on there and thus stopped writing there too) and slowed on the freelance writing front.

However, I have found my place in the writing world. You can read my post about that here.

As a result, my focus right now is on writing and illustrating for children, and so my posts will concentrate in that area. Though, I also work as a freelance editor, with a bunch of projects coming up that are created by Indigenous Australian writers and creators, so I’ll probably talk a little about that too.

You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.
