Monday
Mister 5 was home from preschool due to flooding in the area …
I do love rain but we’ve been getting A LOT lately.
Sent off a completed proofread early this morning and then prepped for an interview for Koori Curriculum Book Summit – I think I’ve mentioned this in a previous post, but they’re doing some incredible work in First Nations education and incorporating more of it into schools and preschools.
I really loved my chat and hope that summit attendees learn a lot during the event where many authors and illustrators will share their work and experiences etc.
Catching up on emails!
So many cups of tea in my brand new koala cup … see note below (I also think it’s kinda hilarious that this is my most popular note to date).
Proofreading another project that’s due at the end of the week.
Sent out Monday post for Creativity Month Week Three!
Tuesday
Mister 5 home from preschool again due to flooding …
Having printer troubles gahhhh and so timely given my husband sent me the below just the other day …
The printing is for the CBCA Shadow Judging group session I’ve got on today at my daughter’s school. The students will each get a journal to note down their thoughts on each book as we make our way through them. Our particular group is focusing on the Picture Book category with the below shortlisted titles:
We Live in a Bus by Dave Petzold
A Leaf Called Greaf by Kelly Canby
Afloat written by Kirli Saunders and illustrated by Freya Blackwood
The Garden of Broken Things by Freya Blackwood
These Long-Loved Things written by Josh Pyke and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh
The Truck Cat written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell
I cannot wait to see which book the kids vote for at the end, and I wonder if it will be the same book I choose!
Wednesday
I had a talk at a Probus Club meeting today, which was lovely. They’re a big group with over 80 members, so it was actually a little nerve-racking, but it went well! I had a cuppa, got up and spoke with all eyes on me, and afterwards had lots of conversation with members who approached me and thanked me for the talk.
Life coach session – this is our second-last session, and I haven’t been yelling out loud everywhere about how incredible Nikki is because she’ll have baby number 3 very soon and not able to take on more life coaching clients. But, when she’s ready and available for more life coach work I’ll make sure I share around her details because our sessions together have truly been life-changing with some huge mindset shifts during a year where life has been particularly chaotic, and I would 100 million per cent recommend Nikki’s services.
Proofreading!
Wrap up
I had a hectic end to the week with a proofreading job due but I got through it and can breathe a little easier over the weekend. I’ve been working after hours often lately, doing late nights and working weekends, so it feels good to have a little breather.
We have had a deluge of rain in recent weeks and this week’s been particularly bad with flooding in many parts of my state. We’re incredibly lucky where we are and aren’t generally too affected by floods when they occur around us, but I’m thinking of all the people who have been affected; 50,000 people are isolated by floodwaters and over 10,000 homes damaged. We’ve had a leak in the ceiling of our bedroom, which is so minor compared to others who’ve lost their homes.
I do love the rain but if it could let up for a bit that would be great!
Here’s a little video from my visit at Stanton Library last week 🥰 How wonderful to have someone there taking videos and photos to create content … I’m SO bad at content creation so can I please have someone follow me around to all my events to do this and then post it for me??

I acknowledge the Darkinjung people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I am writing from today. I walk, talk, write, and create with respect on this land, and I acknowledge the enduring connection the Darkinjung people have with this Country; I thank them for their care of this Country, and I pay respects to the Elders past and present, and extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here reading or listening.
Yeah, these add to the complexity of learning those language.
Yeah, when you learn a language for a limited time, it's natural that if it's not continued, you'll forget most of it. When a language you're learning is very dissimilar to your mother tongue, fear of never becoming fluent in that language/those languages is totally natural. Like your experience in learning German, i had the same experience with Russian.
