I’m 5 days post-surgery and starting to get a little restless. But, it seems that being mostly confined to bed has been good for my art.
I’m gonna keep this short and sweet because I don’t have it in me to write too much, so enjoy a couple of art pieces and chuck a heart down the bottom if you wanna show your support (it is so very much appreciated!).
Here’s a piece I started LAST YEAR (look, sometimes I am slow) and finally finished. There’s a timelapse video over on my Instagram if you want to check that out.
Funny thing is, it’s not even autumn in my part of the world, but I know some of you will be enjoying that falling leaves time of year when things start to get snug and cosy.
And here’s a new one. I often find it really hard to figure out what to draw, so this time I went with sketching my house. Simple, something familiar, and fun to work on.
I’m excited to add colour, though I’m not sure if I’ll do some watercolour and pencil or just stick to pencil … what do you think?
Before I say goodbye, there are paid monthly, yearly and founding member subscription options that include a free piece of my art. If you can’t upgrade to a paid subscription, no worries. My posts are still free and I appreciate you being here and reading or listening as I navigate my way through life and publishing and all the rest.
If you’re one of my recent paid members, please check your Substack inbox for a message from me or respond via email so I can get some art posted out to you.
This is number 8 of 24 essays/posts I’ll be sharing as part of the challenge created by Claire Venus over at Sparkle on Substack. Okay, so at this point it’s unlikely I’ll reach the 24 essays, but I’ll keep trying anyway.
You can read more about the challenge here.
I acknowledge the Darkinjung people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I am writing from today. I walk, talk, write, and create with respect on this land, and I acknowledge the enduring connection the Darkinjung people have with this Country; I thank them for their care of this Country, and I pay respects to the Elders past and present, and extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here reading or listening.
Love your illustration and the sketch! When I want to create and don’t know what, I sometimes do a little zentangle !
I am glad you are able to do something with your time as you recover. I think the hardest part for people post surgery is giving yourself the time to recover.
