My posts this month
Goodbye
1. Some things …
Do you take on too much too?
I am notorious for wanting to do all the things and being tempted by every new opportunity that comes my way whether I’ve got time for it or not.
Recently, I signed up for Yugambeh language classes because it was my pop’s first language, and even though I don’t really have time to spare, it was one thing I couldn’t turn down. So I’ve been showing up every Thursday night to learn and try to remember what I can. (Jingeri – hello in Yugambeh!)
But I absolutely cannot fit in even one more little thing.
Here are some things I’m very tempted by but don’t have time for right now. Sharing because maybe YOU have time:
Picture It! Anthology Competition: ‘Open to aspiring, emerging and accomplished Australian* authorstrators (author – illustrator) from ages 18 to 108.’ A percentage of profits and copies of the anthology will go to my absolute fave organisation: The Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
12 x 12 Illustration Challenge – you have to be a member to enter.
The Cardboard Box Illustrators Showcase – you have to be a member of this one too.
If you’re actually great at not taking on too much, please share your prioritisation tips with the rest of us.
2. Critique giveaway
I worked with Melanie Newfield from The Turnstone last month and here’s the writing I critiqued: A story from the trees. Melanie’s writing is gorgeously descriptive while she tackles some important issues around climate change and conservation.

3. My posts this month
Some of these posts weren’t emailed out as they are very specific to Substack and not all my subscribers are on Substack, but I’m sharing a link here in case you’d like to have a read:
4. Goodbye
I’ve tried to keep this one short and sweet – partly inspired by
’s recent newsletter: Christine’s Weekly Note #7. Sometimes you’ve just got to get it done and get it out there to tick it off your list – thanks Christine!Nyanyahbu! (May I see you all again! in Yugambeh)
I acknowledge the Darkinyung people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I live and work, and I pay my respects to the Elders past and present.
I take on too much too. It helps to have an external deadline, but I need to be better at prioritizing for myself.
I know what you mean - I feel like I take on too much, and have so much on this week, I feel so tired. I had to back out of a CBCA meeting tonight. I feel bad, even though I had to clear a few things before an online seminar for a potential job tomorrow. I have had to drop some competitions I wanted to enter as I can't afford them, but am hoping to work on some pitches over the next few days (in between everything else). It always feels like everything happens at once and my brain can't quite cope all the time.
