Hi all,
Another quick one about a few writing events you’ve still got time to participate in this week. (I promise you won’t be hearing from me every day but since these are opportunities I’ll be checking out, I wanted to make sure you’re aware of them too.)
#50PreciousWords — Write a story for kids under 12 in 50 words or less (yes, 50 words!). You’ve got until March 7 to enter and there are 51 prizes to be won. I hadn’t planned on entering this one because I’ve got a million and one things going on (not unusual) but I came up with an idea yesterday and couldn’t stop until I had it down and ready to submit. You can check out my entry via the link below (although it might not work well on mobile). Also, I’m happy to look over your entry before you submit if you’d like extra eyes on it—get in touch via email or comment or wherever you can find me.
#PitMad — The very first Twitter pitch event ever takes place four times a year with the next one on March 4 (that’s today for me!). You can pitch anything and everything from picture books to adult manuscripts —your pitch just has to fit within a tweet (and make sure those manuscripts are actually ready to be sent out if you get an agent or editor like on your pitch). I might be participating if I can refine a pitch for my latest picture book, but I’ll be doing a little retweeting to show my support for others regardless. Reach out if you’re after some retweets!
Furious Fiction — A writing competition that runs over the first weekend of every month with March’s comp starting in one day (you can see the countdown via the link above and you can also sign up to receive updates so all the info you need will go to your inbox). All you need to do is incorporate the prompts for the month into your 500-words-or-less story and hit submit before the comp closes on Sunday (Australian EST) and you could win $500. I’m not sure whether I’ll participate because I have a BUSY weekend ahead but I’ll be checking the prompts to see if something sparks, and you never know, I might end up with a late night or two to get it done.
I wish you the best of luck if you’re participating in any of these this week, and feel free to reach out if you’re in need of more info or support :D
Happy writing, friends!
