Why Subscribe to Creating Through Chaos?
What I aim to do here at Creating Through Chaos is explore and share my journey of living a successful creative life (and all that that means to me in terms of defining success) while studying and learning from the success of other creatives too.
I want to connect with creators doing all different kinds of creative things and have discussions around how that fits into life – is it a part-time endeavour, full-time job, hobby, or something else? And what do you want it be? Let’s work together to figure that out and reach for those creative goals.
Who am I?
I’m a First Nations Aussie writer, artist, and editor (warami, g’day, hi, hello!) currently focusing on writing picture books. I signed with literary agent Annabel Barker in 2023 and sold 3 picture book manuscripts in 2024 to Hachette with my debut coming out 26 March 2025.
I realise that’s a whole lot of dates there, so ignore if need be, but for me those dates signify this wonderful wave of career-making all coming together after working for years before that.
And yet, I still have much to learn.
What’s in it for you?

Where I started
Much has changed since I first started writing on Substack. In the beginning I was writing a lot on Medium and pursuing freelance writing work. I’ve since stopped Medium altogether (I no longer found it enjoyable reading on there and thus stopped writing there too) and slowed on the freelance writing front.
However, I have found my place in the writing world. You can read my post about that here.
In my editing role, I freelance and work with publishers such as Thames & Hudson and Allen & Unwin, as well as authors themselves before they submit their work. I focus on First Nations titles, though do work in other genres and categories too.
I’ve also been a judge in the children’s category of the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, and always advocate for children’s literature, authors, illustrators, and of course, First Nations creators.
But enough about me, I want to know all about you, so check out the info below and I hope you’ll sign up and reach out to chat about your life and creative goals and how it all fits together.
You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.
