I love Claire Saxby's book, ICEBERG, illustrated by Jess Racklyeft! The double gatefold underwater scene is a show-stopper! I haven't seen Big Cat, yet, but I'll add it to my TBR list. Thanks for the rec!
That book is incredible! It's funny because my littlest loved it so much he would always reach for it during reading time, and he was only 2 then. I didn't expect him to think much of it as I figured it would be geared towards kids a little older. Another by Claire Saxby and Jess Racklyeft is Whisper on the Wind – also gorgeous.
I really cannot believe I have never heard about the myth of big cats! I will have to speak sternly to my friends in Australia for not alerting me to this legend! I just requested our library add this book since they don't have it.
Ooh please do speak to your Australian friends! I'd love to hear what they have to say about the big cat legend in their area. It seems to be common in lots of places throughout Australia. The rugby league team in the area I was born and raised are called the Penrith Panthers and that comes from the rumour of panther sightings in the surrounding bush.
