Availability of money - I don't have a lot right now, and even when I get a job, I've got a list of things that need to come first - industry subscriptions (I am hoping to add three in), living costs, and so forth. I'd love to but at the moment I can't justify the cost with little to no money coming in.

Definitely - I think that's why I want to vary content here, but sometimes post things from my other blog as well. To give people who subscribe to both variety but under the same umbrella name.
I think that's a good strategy. And it's always good to try and just see what works and what doesn't on different platforms. I'm on way too many of them and they're all so different in what appeals to readers.

Yes, I completely understand. Extra subscriptions need to fit in with budgeting, and if that's not possible then they might just have to wait.
Exactly - there are one or two I'd love to pay for but as you said, budgeting needs to allow for it.
I think too that Substack is fairly new for lots of people, so it'll take some time for writers on here to build up a following both paid and unpaid.
